Eastern Denmark's largest biogas plant has opened

On Monday 18 June 2018, Minister of Energy, Supply and Climate Lars Christian Lilleholt inaugurated the newly built Kalundborg Bioenergy plant. In the new plant, Ørsted and Bigadan will convert the residues from Novozymes' and Novo Nordisk's factories in Kalundborg into biogas, which will then be upgraded to natural gas. After degassing, the biomass will be used as fertiliser in the fields.

Kalundborg Bioenergy is not just an ambitious collaboration between three partners in the Kalundborg Symbiosis; it is also a double-up on recycling residues and adds two new streams to the ecosystem.
