In Kalundborg Municipality there are over 13,000 private jobs, both very large jobs of great importance on the world market and on a smaller scale. There are also almost 6,000 public jobs. With about 48,000 inhabitants, Kalundborg is a busy commercial and upland center for northwest coast area of Zealand. The city is also an educational center of the area, with higher education offered as well as high schools and different educational directions are still on the way.
Kalundborg Port is 15 meters deep, and one of the busiest ports in Denmark as well as the main port for export of grains on Zealand. In 2021 the New West Port was inaugurated with 330.000 m2 of new harbor area and activities in the container terminal are rapidly growing. From Kalundborg there is a ferry boat to the island of Samsø. To the north and west there is no less than 160 km of coastline. The town's landmark is the five-towered Church of Our Lady, built in the 13th century.
