Inauguration of the new 1.375 m2 surface water works

On 20 December 2018, the new surface waterworks at Kalundborg Utility was inaugurated with speeches, bubbles and a tour.

Kalundborg Utility is now the first in the world to treat surface water without the use of chlorine. The new waterworks, Tissø II, is a high-tech and innovative waterworks with a focus on sustainability, where energy consumption, working environment and hygiene requirements are essential.

Tissø II has cost DKK 90 million and will transport 1.6 million cubic metres of water per year from Tissø to Kalundborg's industrial companies.
It replaces Tissø I, which has a capacity of one million cubic metres per year. Tissø I, however, will remain backup for the next three months.

The transition from Tissø I to Tissø II means, among other things, that water waste is more than halved, electricity consumption is reduced by 33 percent and two chemicals are phased out. The water is supplied in drinking water quality, which is crucial for Novozymes, which produces enzymes for the food industry.

Kalundborg Utility supplies about 3.5 million cubic metres of surface water per year, which replaces drinking water and thus helps to conserve groundwater reserves.
