Novozymes is one of the world’s largest producers in biological solutions and supplier of enzymes and microbial technology. Enzymes enable higher crop yields in agriculture, laundry at lower temperatures, energy savings in manufacturing processes and renewable fuels.
Novozymes plays a key role in Kalundborg Symbiosis as a local value-creating partnership with a circular approach. Novozymes in Kalundborg employs approx. 600 people and produce, among other things, enzymes that boost detergency of washing powder, and reduce the use of chemicals in industrial processes. The enzymes are produced in a fermentation process based on agricultural raw materials, such as sugar, starch and protein. Novozymes benefits from the process steam and purified surface water from Lake Tissø, which is used directly into the production of enzymes. Biomass from enzyme production is converted into energy and fertilizers
